Metabonomics of Human Serum for Early Ovarian Cancer
Diagnostics
Due to the asymptomatic
nature of the ovarian cancer disease and lack of predictive biomarkers, only 19%
of women are diagnosed in the early stages, while the average survival rate is
only 29% if diagnosed in the advanced stages. Therefore, screening for specific
predictive biomarkers for the early-stage ovarian cancer is a major public
health priority.
Currently I am pursuing a project directed
towards the high-throughput discovery of ovarian cancer biomarkers via
state-of-the art metabonomic and chemometric methodologies in two areas:
-
Serum based comparative metabonomics study using reversed phase high
performance liquid chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry (RP-HPLC-TOF
MS) combined with multivariate statistical analysis.
-
Cyst
fluid based comparative metabonomics study using direct analysis in real time
TOF MS (DART-TOF MS) combined with multivariate statistical analysis.
