CHEM-DiCE in Gas-Expanded Liquids

In plain words: Supercritical fluids are increasingly being used as the solvent of choice in chemical reactions because they have little environmental impact. That is, they are "green"! Moving just below, suprercritical conditions, gas-expanded liquids (GXLs) have many of these advantages but because they are closer to liquids actually have even more! That is, a larger number of molecules are able to dissolve in them. Our group, in collaboration with the group of Charles Eckert and Charles Liotta, is studying the nanoscale structure of these GXLs and the degree to which it changes (or can be tuned!) as a consequence of environmental conditions.
